VERONA, NJ – Verona police arrested 27-year-old Marc Alverson of Verona for criminal attempt burglary and criminal mischief.

According to Verona police, Officer Brendan Huber responded to a Pompton Ave. business on May 18 on a reported attempted burglary.  Detective/Sgt Tim Banta reviewed the video surveillance which showed a man pick up a piece of concrete and throw it through the business’ front door.  The suspect gave up on entering the building after breaking one pane of glass and fled the area.

Police distributed still photos of the suspect throughout the department and Officer Jordan Descafano recognized the man from previous incidents.

Further investigation, which included reviewing video surveillance from three additional local businesses, allowed police to arrest Alverson.  Upon processing, he was released on his own recognizance.

Verona police said this is the third commercial burglary on Pompton Ave this year and each burglary was solved with the help of video surveillance.  Verona Police Department encourages every business to protect its investment and install cameras.  If a business already has a camera, it should be registered it with the department.
