VERONA, NJ — A transformer explosion sent parts of Verona into the dark Friday morning.

According to Capt. Stephen DePoe of the Verona Police Department, a telephone pole with three transformers atop it on Ozone Avenue "blew up this morning and there was a little fire as a result."

The outage caused a temporary malfunction of the traffic light at the intersection of Pompton Avenue and Linden Avenue. Also affected were school children in the township who were taking virtual classes online.

By noon, police reported, all of the power had been restored.
