NEWARK, NJ - After an unbelievable run that earned them the Group 1 State Title and a spot in the first-ever Tournament of Champions, Cedar Grove Softball's 2017 season has come to an end Wednesday. After defeating No. 3 seed Robbinsville, 2-1, in the first round, No. 6 seed Cedar Grove fell to No. 2 seed Immaculate Heart 3-0 in Newark Wednesday night.
Immaculate Heart struck early, scoring three runs in the first inning without a single hit. An uncharacteristically wild inning for Mia Faieta, led to two walks and three hit batters giving the Blue Eagles the lead. Faieta's dominance returned after the second inning and she finished with seven strikeouts and allowed just one hit.
On the mound for Immaculate Heart, Olivia Sprofera held the Panthers off with six strikeouts, no walks and just three hits.
Immaculate Heart will play Lodi Immaculate in the championship on Friday night.
