Tornado Watch Issued, Severe Thunderstorms Hit Cedar Grove and Verona

CEDAR GROVE/VERONA, NJ – The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Essex County through 10 p.m. Friday evening.

The first round of thunderstorms hit the area of Cedar Grove and Verona around 4 p.m.  producing damaging winds and heavy rains.  A large tree fell on Little Falls Road in Cedar Grove, uplifting the sidewalk as it fell.  More storms are forecasted throughout the evening. 

More damage was reported on Route 23, Morgan's Farm, Mawal Drive, East Lindsley Road and Holly Lane in Cedar Grove.  The storms also resulted in power outtages throughout the area.

On May 4, 2018 at 2:58 p.m., Ptl. Raymond Cassella stopped a vehicle for not having an inspection decal and an obstructed windshield. A subsequent investigation led to the arrest of the 28 year old male operator from Paterson for driving with a suspended license and having a suspended registration. His vehicle was impounded and he was released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
