TOMS RIVER - Kate Ashley had another outstanding performance Friday at The State Group Track & Field Championships in Toms River.  In the first event of the night, Kate got boxed in behind several runners during the 400 m race forcing her into the outer lanes to pass thus using some valuable time.  She still finish strong with a time of 61.0 to get 8th place overall in a very competitive field.

However, not to be denied her personal goal of competing in prestigious Meet of Champions, Kate returned about two hours later on the track to compete in the 800 m run.  Her determination and resolve were quite evident for anyone watching this young lady compete once again in field of superb athletes finishing second with a brilliant 2:22.6 performance.  Kate Ashley will compete in The New Jersey Meet of Champions next Sunday at The Bennett Center in Toms River.

Sophomore Lily Benanchietti competed in pole-vault clearing opening height of 7” but missing at 7’6” with three close attempts.  Sophomore Brianna Rigney ran her personal best 400m in the lead leg of our 4 x 400 m relay. Freshmen Chelsea Gruskin and Kathleen Nagy ran legs 2 & 3 while Kate Ashley anchored the relay.  Although the relay didn’t qualify the meet provided much experience for a young group of athletes who will provide a strong nucleus for the future.
