VERONA, NJ — What would have been the last game of Verona High School's football season has been canceled.
Verona was scheduled to play at Boonton High School Friday at 6 p.m., but on Thursday that game was called off, according to an announcement by Verona Schools Superintendent Dr. Rui Dionisio, because of a positive COVID-19 case within the program.
The game against Boonton was actually a replacement game already. Verona was originally scheduled to play Shabazz before Newark Mayor Ras Baraka last week shut down the sports programs of all Newark schools for the rest of the month.
Verona finished its 2020 season with a 5-2 record.
