VERONA, NJ - Laura Fortgang, a 25-year Verona resident, is a mom of three, a bestselling author, a career and executive coach, a sought-after speaker and a candidate for Assembly in the 26th Legislative District in northern New Jersey.
Fortgang was born in New Jersey, but lived in Venezuela from age five through 12, and she credits this time with her ability to adjust to different experiences and cultures.
As a young woman, Fortgang moved to Manhattan to pursue her dream of performing on Broadway. She acted professionally and earned her union card, supplementing her income by waitressing. After ten years of acting and no Broadway shows on the horizon, she was at a crossroads.
Fortgang used the skills she developed as a performer to live her new dream—impacting how people thought, felt and behaved at the world’s best-known corporations and organizations. Inspired by her personal experience with career coaching, Fortgang became one of the first coaches in the country to go through a formal training program and ultimately became a founding member of the International Coaches Federation, which is now in 80 countries.
“The experience of teaching presentation skills at corporations led me to realize there was so much more to helping people be their best self,” said Fortgang. “Getting the best out of someone for a presentation was about more than how to they held their hands or used their voice. I knew I needed a deeper skill set to help people overcome their fears and be clearer about what they wanted to communicate. It was time for new insight and training, which was coaching.”
Fortgang also caught the writing bug and has written five bestselling books. She’s also given speeches all over the world.
On the home front, Fortgang is heavily involved in the Verona community, having served as president of the Verona Music Parents Association. She’s currently the chairwoman of the Verona Democratic Committee.
