VHS Girls Winter Track Competes at the State Sectionals

TOMS RIVER, NJ - Kate Ashley continued her strong winter track season at The State Sectional Track and Field Championships at Toms River.   Kate was third in the 400m @ 61.6, later in the meet she ran the second fastest 800m run by a Verona High School girl in winter track with a time of 2:23.47 to get third place.

In the last race of the night the Verona 4 x 400m team consisting of Brianna Rigney, Chelsea Gruskin, Kathleen Nagy and Kate Ashley placed fourth with a 4:32 performance. Liliana Benanchietti was 6th in pole-vault with a jump of 7’. All five girls will compete at The State Group Championships on Friday, February 17.

The following girls narrowly missed 6th place in their event, thus qualifying for the group championships.

Brianna Rigney missed qualifying in the 800m by 0.8 seconds with a run of 2:32.5.

Alex Holland was 7th in high-jump with a jump of 4’6”.

Cianna Winkler missed finals by 0.2 seconds with a 10.17 performance in high hurdles.

The following Verona girls also competed at the State Sectional Meet.
