Wayne Police Arrest Two on Drug Charges After Chase In Willowbrook Mall

WAYNE, NJ — Township Police arrested two men at Willowbrook Mall after finding them in a bathroom stall injecting themselves with heroin, police said.

Det. Capt. Lawrence Martin said officers responded to the mall around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Jan. 11 as a man who had been banned from the property, Jesse R. Simunovich, 23, of North Caldwell, was reportedly seen there.

Martin said Officer Gregory Halligan observed Simunovich and another man, Michael A. Liska, 24, of Hopatcong, go into a bathroom in Lord & Taylor where police say they injecting themselves with narcotics.

Liska ran from the bathroom with Officer Anne Shivas chasing him. Lisha was apprehended with help of mall security, Martin said.

Martin reported that police found 17 glassine bags of suspected heroin, a hypodermic needle loaded with a "brown liquid suspected to be heroin," three small black cylinders containing crack cocaine, a bag of suspected marijuana, and three capped hypodermic needles. 

Liska was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic needles.

Simunovich was arrested without incident, Martin added.. He was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespass.
