Weekend Travel Fun - Hunterdon County is Celebrating It’s Sixth Annual Community Day - June 2

RARITAN TWP., NJ – Hunterdon’s fifth annual Community Day will be held on Saturday, June 2.

The event, sponsored by the county and the Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce, will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the South County Park / Hunterdon County Fairgrounds, located on Route 179 just outside of Ringoes.

The fun-filled event celebrates everything Hunterdon. From local businesses to non-profit organizations to Hunterdon’s 26 municipalities, there will be a lot to see and do throughout the celebration that attracts more than 4,000 attendees.

“Community Day has truly become a place where we can showcase and celebrate all the great towns, organizations, non- profits, the business community and great resources of Hunterdon County,” said Hunterdon County Chamber of Commerce President Chris Phelan.

Back by popular demand, Michael Shwedick’s Reptile World will be holding three live reptile shows throughout the afternoon. Hunterdon County Clerk, Mary Melfi will be hosting a shred event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Guests who have items to shred will be directed to the designated drop-off area and then directed to parking.

There will be musical performances throughout the day by The Hunterdon Wind Symphony, Marshalls Dixieland Band, Due South and Tom Johnston and Ed Jankiewicz. In addition an antique Calliope will be making its debut at this year’s Community Day.

Hunterdon Healthcare will have face painting and other interactive activities within their tent. In addition, they will be setting up a fun obstacle course in partnership with the Healthy Hunterdon Work Force Initiative.

”Hunterdon Healthcare is looking forward to participating in Hunterdon County Community Day,” said Kathleen Seelig, Corporate Director of Public Relations and Marketing at Hunterdon Medical Center. “We encourage our community to stop by our tent on June 2 and talk to the many health professionals and get your blood pressure taken. Children can bring their favorite stuffed animal and get it checked out by our nurse from the Hunterdon Wound Healing Center, plus enjoy free face painting."

Live Right with ShopRite will be sharing health and wellness tips along with fun and interactive activities. This festive event will also include a petting zoo, pony rides, children's games, bouncy rides, and live music, fire & rescue squad vehicles, demonstrations from local businesses and organizations and tethered rides on the Unity Bank Hot Air Balloon.

There will be plenty of food available for purchase.

Male Body Found Saturday Morning Under Belmar Boardwalk

BELMAR, NJ — A male body was found this morning under the Belmar boardwalk at Ninth Avenue, according to reports.

While the Monmouth County Medical Examiner's Office was at the scene on Ocean Avenue at about 8:15 a.m. on June 16, a spokesman for the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office referred all questions to the Belmar Police Department.
