Wrestling: Cedar Grove Earns No. 2 Seed and Verona Earns No. 4 Seed in NJSIAA State Tournament

VERONA/CEDAR GROVE, NJ - The  NJSIAA Wrestling Team Championship Tournament kicks off this week.  Cedar Grove enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed and Verona is the No. 4 seed.

Cedar Grove is looking to defend its Group 1 championship title.  They are coming in with a 6-10-1 record and just earned a second place finish in the Essex County Tournament behind Seton Hall Prep.  Anthony Clarizio won his third Essex County Championship and has more than 20 wins for the season.  Joseph McCarthy had a second place finish in the Essex County Tournament and has also tallied more than 20 wins.  The Panthers will host No. 7 Whippany Park on Monday at 7 p.m.

Verona finished up with a 12-8 record for the season and finished just behind Cedar Grove in the Essex County Tournament at third place.  Nick Fierro won the championship title at 160 lbs. and Billy Czupak took second at 195 pounds in the Essex County Tournament.  In addition Frank Gabriele took third a the tourney and has racked up more than 20 wins this season.  Verona will host No.5 Hasbrouck Heights on Monday at 7 pm.
