Wrestling: Five Verona Wrestlers to Compete in NJSIAA Quarterfinals


VERONA, NJ – Five Verona wrestlers will compete in the NJSIAA Region 4 quarterfinals at West Orange High School on Friday at 6 p.m.

No. 7 Jimmy Loudon defeated No. 10 Jason Dukhi of Kerney at 113 pounds to advance to the quarterfinals.  He will take on No. 2 Victor Lopez of West Orange.

No. 4 Frank Gabriele will compete at 126 pounds after winning the District 13 title at that weight last week.  He will battle No. 5 Marcro Macrino of West Essex.

No. 6 Nick Fierro defeated No. 11 Vincent Plessel of Rutherford at 138 to advance.  He will hit the mat against No. 3 Nick LeGreaux of Passaic Valley Tech.  

No. 5 Billy Czupak took down No. 12 Marco Herraro of Fort Lee at 182 pounds to earn his spot int he quarterfinals.  He battle No. 4 Noah Argueta of  Cliffside Park.  

No. 2 Mark Riggio will hit the mat at 195 pounds looking to earn a repeat trip to Atlantic City after earning a bye for his second place finish in the District 13 tourney.  He will take on No. 7 Joe Lesho of Becton/Wallington.  

The semifinals and finals will be held Saturday at West Orange High School beginning at 9 a.m.  The top three wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the NJSIAA State Championship in Atlantic City March 4-6.

BAYONNE, NJ – The case of a near lifetime supply of toothpaste that was taken from a Bayonne pharmacy has been solved.
