Wrestling: Verona Sends Two to Atlantic City

VERONA, NJ - Verona's Jimmy Loudon and Frank Gabriele  have both earned their way to the state wrestling championship's at Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall this coming weekend.  

Loudon took fourth place in the NJSIAA Region 3 championships at 120 lbs. on Saturday.  Loudon pinned Madison's Jack Murphy and defeated Lyndhurst's Matthew Daub, 10-3, before falling to Delbarton's Patrick Glory.  He fell to North Bergen's Yousef Salem in the third place match, but it was enough to earn his ticket to Atlantic City.  

Gabriele (132 lbs.) had a bye in the first round.  He lost to Warren Hills' Matthew Vallii, 3-0, in the second round.  He faced Valli again in the third place match, falling 3-1 but earning fourth place and a spot in Atlantic City.

Nick Fierro took fifth place at 150 lbs.  Fierro pinned Randolph's Derek Rooney in the first round and defeated Lyndhurst's Victor Jorge, 4-1, before falling to Delbarton's Keiran Calvetti, 3-0.  He defeated Queen of Peace's Michael Pillot, 6-2 to earn the fifth place spot.  

The state championship action will kickoff on Friday in Atlantic City.
