Verona Historical Society

The Verona Historical Society invites you to join us  on Tuesday, February 4th  at 7:30 p.m. for a virtual tour of the Harrison Homestead which stood on Passaic Avenue in Roseland.

This venerable old homestead, which dated from the 18th century, was demolished in the early 1990's. "I remember the house when Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Harrison lived there and how the house was filled with family heirlooms. The Harrison's gave me a couple of old chairs which Mr. Harrison taught me how to cane on the side lawn of the house and thanks to him, I am still doing it today,"  commented local Historian, Robert L. Williams.

The Harrison family purchased the house in the early 1800's and was reputed to have been very old at that time. They added the Greek Revival era extension about 1840 and Queen Anne Victorian-ized the first floor original portion of the house about 1895. "I owe it to the Harrison's the re-design of my kitchen in my National Register home in Montgomery, N.Y which was patterned after the Victorian kitchen in their house which time forgot," commented Williams.

The event will take place at the Verona Community Center in the Fireman’s Room, 880 Bloomfield Ave.
