VERONA, NJ - With the holiday's upon us and the arrival of the cyber shopping season, Verona Police offer these tips to prevent package thefts and protect your holiday purchases.  

Annually, during the holiday season the Township sees an increase in thefts of items shipped to unoccupied residences. Home surveillance systems are useful for providing suspect and vehicle descriptions as well as the time of theft; however they do not prevent thefts.

To protect your packages, follow these tips:

  • Have packages delivered to your office or place of employment

  • Request packages be delivered to less conspicuous location, such as a back porch or side door

  • Ask a family member, trusted neighbor and friends to accept deliveries on your behalf

  • Request a signature on delivery if possible

  • Some companies offer a locker service or packages delivered to distribution center for pickup

  • Keep an eye out for suspicious vehicles and persons in your neighborhood and report an activity to Verona Police immediately at (973) 239-5000.

Note: Local businesses such as TERRY’S FAMILY PHARMACY will accept packages for residents during the holiday season.
