VERONA/CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Gov. Phil Murphy made members of the NJ high school Class of 2020 happy on Tuesday when he announced on Twitter that in-person graduations can be held outdoors starting July 6 as long as they comply with social distancing guidelines.

"Beginning July 6th, schools WILL have the opportunity to hold outdoor graduation ceremonies that comply with social distancing — ensuring the health and safety of all in attendance," Murphy wrote on Twitter.

Murphy had been under pressure from senators, school officials, parents, and students who felt a traditional outdoor ceremony could be held safely, allowing the Class of 2020 to have one last time together after missing out on almost all the usual Senior Year festivities due to the coronavirus outbreak.
