VERONA, NJ - The first Wednesday in October is National Walk to School Day, and Verona students took advantage of the summer-like weather to get some exercise by walking to school.  According to the Verona Environmental Commission, traveling by car is the largest single source of greenhouse gas emissions in Verona, leading to climate change and affecting air quality.

Organized by the Partnership for a Walkable America, Walk to School Day began in 1997 as a one-day event aimed at building awareness for the need for walkable communities.  Today, more than 4,000 schools participate.
