VERONA, NJ - Thanks to the approved November referendum, Verona Schools will be getting a facelift: but it’s going to take some time. As a result, the Board of Education approved a move in the start date of the school year to accommodate construction.
Though originally slated to begin before Labor Day, schools will now be starting September 14. The move leaves many parents concerned about childcare, as most camps will have already closed.
“As a parent, I'm naturally grateful for the improvements to our schools,” said Chris Barrows, whose children attend a Verona elementary school. “When I found out that school would be starting later, my reaction was to reach out to some of the fellow parents who I know are in the same situation as me with childcare. We've plenty of time from the start of a brand new school year, but my hope is that I'll be able to work with some of my son's friend's parents to find a way, so we can all team up to support each other--splitting some care duties/play dates--provided no other options are otherwise available. If there's one thing I know about the Verona Community, it's one where we support each other, and as working parents, I know my family is grateful for that.”
More information will be distributed to parents as construction schedules are put into place. Parents should check with their children’s school for specific updates.
