MONTCLAIR, NJ - After a fire swept through the dog run of the Montclair Township Animal Shelter nearly two years ago, Montclair officials commemorated a reopening of the facility with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

On Wednesday, the Township of Montclair, Friends of the Township of Montclair Animal Shelter and employees, welcomed the public to the ribbon cutting ceremony. The re-opening signified the start of full service back to the rehabilitated animal facility that received extensive fire damage in April of 2016, devastating the kennel runs and other areas of the rear of the building.

Linda Morgan, acting Director, describes the day vividly, saying, "We were having a meeting and it just happened to be one for volunteers, when the alarms went off. We were able to get all of the animals out of the building ."

"It was important to get the facility up and running to full capacity. After two years, we are able to provide service to our animals that are brought in and to people who are looking to adopt or bring in animals that they can no longer care for."

Joining in the celebration, Karen Sacks , President  of the Friends of the Township of Montclair  Animal  Shelter " in  reopening the facility we are able to provide a service to the community not only for adoption and the animals  brought  in we invite the community  to come in and see what we do and how they can be apart. Part of what we do is to raise awareness . We have reading days where people  can come in and read to the animals along with many  opportunities  for volunteering. "

On hand for the Ribbon cutting  from the Township,  Brian Scantelbury , Sean Spiller , Robert Russo , Tim Stafford  and the Honorable  Mayor Robert Jackson  " I'm glad to see the shelter up and running again . It provides a  great community  service that provides for adoptions and provides a safe place for animals that can no longer remain  with their owners . The Township  is in great support of the work that is done at the facility! "

Following  the Ribbon-cutting  Lisa Arada , volunteer and member of FOMTAS  provided a walk through  tour  of the facility . At any given time up to 70 animals are provided   service  wether on the premises or fostered out off site .
