WHAT:            Local Allstate agency owner Shelby Mobley is partnering with Access Family Services and the National Coalition to End Domestic Violence to collect critical professional clothing items during October’s National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Victims who escape domestic violence situations often leave with only the clothes on their back – donating lightly used suits, dresses, blouses and more helps these women take the first step toward getting back on their feet.

The donation drive is part of a national Allstate Foundation Purple Purse effort, with Allstate agencies throughout the U.S. Area residents can drop off clothing and other items at the following location:

  • Shelby Mobley, 471 Pompton, Cedar Grove

WHEN:           Donations are being accepted through Oct. 11.

WHY:              One in four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, and 99% of victims experience financial abuse. While it’s often overlooked, a lack of financial resources is one of the top reasons victims stay in or return to abusive relationships.

Because victims often arrive to emergency shelters with just the clothes on their backs and a small bag of personal items, it’s often difficult for them to get back into the workforce and ultimately regain their family’s independence. A donation of professional clothing empowers survivors from the interview process through their first paycheck and beyond.
