CEDAR GROVE, NJ – As the COVID-19 virus wreaks havoc across the world, cheerleaders from Cedar Grove are doing their part to spread joy and hope with their CheerUP! Project. This free, personalized “gram” is delivered via text or email to deserving recipients. You can choose a generic message, or Happy Birthday-, Thank You for Your Service-, or Get Well-themed grams.

“When our cheerleading season was canceled, instead of sulking, my teammates came together and decided to use our skills and try to lift spirits as cheerleaders were meant to do,” explained Mackenzie Jennings, the 14 year-old lead creative of Project CheerUP! “Using social distancing, we separately filmed individual videos showing our skills in tumbling and jumping to create four, fun-to-watch themed grams. We personalize the message and send the free grams to anyone who requests one”.

“In a week we have reached over 1000 people all over the country with more than 200 personalized grams and more coming in every day. Mackenzie continued. “Our favorite part of this is sharing this idea with any cheerleaders who want to join in.”  Bloomfield High School was the first team to sign on creating their own CheerUP! Videos, but using the CheerUP! Brand showing unity for the Project. Other teams include, Just Cheer of Fairfield, NJ, Cheernasium, Wayne, NJ and the Cedar Grove Jr. Competition team, which bring a whole new level of talent to Project CheerUP! Cheer Grams.

Self-isolating grandparents, those celebrating birthdays, and people who are ailing have been touched by this simple, yet kind message. While Birthday grams are most popular, the demand for Thank You grams to send to healthcare workers who are on the front lines battling COVID-19 is growing daily. Thank You for Your Service Grams were sent to Atlantic Health in Essex and Morris Counties, Valley Hospital (Ridgewood), St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center (Paterson), Peace Care skilled nursing facilities (Jersey City), and Columbia Presbyterian (New York City). To request a free personalized Cheer Up! Gram, email wecheeryouup@gmail.com and Project CheerUP! will personalize a message for your recipient.

About the Cheer UP! Project
Created by four high school cheerleaders—(Mackenzie Jennings, Ava Cassilli, Alessia Velazquez, and Sofia Cordaro)—who reside in Cedar Grove, N.J.—the CheerUP! Project was developed primarily to show people that “some days you have to create your own sparkle and shine.” The CheerUP! Project is a virtual and safe way to use cheerleading skills to provide a service to anyone in need of “cheering up” during the social distancing protocol in place due to COVID-19.  #LeadersWhoCheer #CheerUPtheWorld
