CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Cedar Grove Mayor Robbie Vargo announced his departure from the town council on Facebook on Friday.  His statement follows:

I have an important announcement to make that some of you may or may not know by now.  This has been announcement that my family and I have planned for the last few weeks, with many of my close friends and family knowing for weeks.

This year has been one of the most challenging years of my life, personally, professionally, and as a township official as you know. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as the Mayor, I was responsible for leading our community through the worst pandemic to hit in 100+ years. We were all scared...and I felt that from our community....we all needed to be there for each other....and I wanted to be there for all of you...We didn’t know what was happening next, but we knew we needed to stick together as Cedar Grove always does.

However, while I was tending to my love of Cedar Grove, I have not surprisingly been distracted from my family obligations while my fantastic wife somehow kept our house afloat with 4 kids, a closed business, homeschooling, and everything in between. She has been my rock, my support, my everything. But, now is the time that I need to be her rock, her support, and her everything, and I need to be there for whatever she may need as she enters the next phase of our professional lives on June 15th.

So, it is with great sadness that I tell you that I have stepped down from the Cedar Grove Town Council. It has been an incredible honor to serve our fantastic community. I want to thank all of you for your support and I want to thank Tom Tucci, Kathy Stutz, the Cedar Grove Police Department, Fire Department, Rescue Squad, Township employees, and of course, Kerry Peterson, Peter Tanella, Joe Cicala, and Joe Maceri!  I will miss you all!
