VERONA, NJ - Verona residents will see an increase in their sewer bills.  The town council voted to increase fees by 20 percent and increase the sewer and water connection fees paid by developers/contractors by 27 percent at its meeting on Monday.  The last increase was in 2002.

According to Town Manager Matthew Cavallo, Verona was forced to make the increases due to new regulations from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection which require upgrades be made to Verona’s wastewater plant.

The annual sewer user charge will increase to $600 per household from $500 and the cost to developers for sewer and water connections will increase to $3,500 from $2,750.  The changes take effect immediately and will be implemented on first-quarter billing.
