VERONA/CEDAR GROVE, NJ — As the rate of new COVID cases, as well as hospitalizations and the rate of transmission (rT), slow across New Jersey, a similar trend is showing up locally.
There were 10 new confirmed COVID cases in Cedar Grove over the last week, and eight new confirmed cases in Verona during the same period, according to data provided by Essex County —fewer than 1.5 per day in each community.
There has been a cumulative total of 1,527 cases in Cedar Grove, and 985 cases in Verona, since testing for COVID-19 began 14 months ago. Just 81 new cases of the virus were reported throughout Essex County between Sunday and Monday.
The rT in New Jersey was down to 0.37 on Sunday. Just a week earlier, that figure stood at 0.92. The rT signifies how many persons to whom, on average, each new case would spread. A transmission rate of 1.0 means that each person who has the virus passes it to one other person, on average.
Hospitalizations related to COVID in New Jersey dropped below 1,500 over the weekend for the first time since last fall.
