PARAMUS, NJ – Around 10:30 AM Thursday morning, a bus filled with East Brook Middle School 5th Grade Students was involved in a motor vehicle accident along I-80 in Mount Olive, NJ. The students were enroute to Waterloo Village for a class field trip. It was initially reported that the bus had collided with a dump truck causing the bus to roll into the median and dislodge from its chassis.
On the bus, there were 38 students and 7 adults including the bus driver. Governor Murphy confirmed this afternoon at Paramus High School that there was one student and one adult who lost their life in the accident. The 43 other passengers have been hospitalized with some in critical condition undergoing surgery. The students and chaperones were sent to various near by hospitals.
The Paramus Police Department issued two statements on Facebook regarding the situation earlier this afternoon.
