LITTEL FALLS, NJ - The Little Falls Police Department has received two reports of checks stolen from United States Postal Service blue collection boxes.
Typically this is done by “phishing” from the mailbox where suspects coat a small item such as a water bottle in a sticky substance and send it into the receptacle on a string. It is possible these thefts are occurring overnight, police said.
If you need to mail something of importance such as a check, attempt to place it in the box closest to the collection time which can be seen on the box. Once the item is mailed, follow up with the recipient to ensure it has been received.
