CEDAR GROVE, NJ — A collision involving three vehicles during rush hour in Cedar Grove last Friday caused one driver to be hospitalized and subsequently charged with DWI.

On April 23 at 5:12 p.m., Patrolman Anthony Grigolo responded to the area of Pompton Avenue and Montclair Avenue for a three-car motor vehicle crash. One of the drivers became unresponsive with no pulse or respiration.

Additional officers arrived on scene and CPR was initiated. Grigolo determined that the driver’s symptoms were consistent with a drug overdose. He administered Narcan to the victim, who regained consciousness a short time later.

The 53-year-old driver was treated at the hospital and released into police custody. He was charged with driving while intoxicated and released with a summons to appear in municipal court.
