CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Cedar Grove police and fire departments responded to a car fire inside of a garage at Cedar Grove Garden Apartments on Monday.

Officers arrived on the scene around 2:45 p.m. and used extinguishers to slow the fire while evacuating the building. Cedar Grove Fire Department arrived shortly after and extinguished the fire.

One officer was transported to an area hospital by the Cedar Grove Ambulance and Rescue Squad for smoke inhalation, where he was treated and released.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but appears to be accidental in nature according to reports.

“Do to the efforts of all the first responders the fire was contained to the car and garage area with no major injuries,” said Chief Joseph Cirasa.
