VERONA, NJ - The Verona Hillbillies boys basketball team fell to Newark Central, 53-47, in Verona on Saturday.
The Hillbillies kept it close in the first quarter, but Newark Central pulled ahead in the second to end the half with a 28-19 advantage. Newark Central outscored Verona 8-3 in the third quarter, but the Hillbillies rallied in the fourth but did not have enough time to overtake Newark Central.
Nick Gonzalez led for Verona with 14 points, while Derek Jocelyn tallied 12 points. Cael Zebrowski, Andrew Emanuilidis and Shane Lawless added eight, six, and five points respectively.
Verona falls to 4-4 for the season. They travel to Shabazz on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
