CEDAR GROVE, NJ - Chuck Linfante, who passed away in May, was a permanent substitute teacher for 16 years at Cedar Grove High School -- serving as beloved mentor and becoming a fixture at all CGHS sporting and extracurricular events.  On July 23, the Board of Education approved a resolution to name the high school baseball field "Linfante Field" in honor of Linfante's contributions to CGHS and its students. The dedication ceremony will be held before the first home football game on Sept. 13.

Linfante's love of baseball was well-known and he enjoyed talking about the sport with students, faculty and administration according to the resolution.  He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University on a full baseball scholarship and was inducted into the school's Hall of Fame in 2008. According to his obituary, Linfante was an avid athlete, marathon runner, Major League Baseball pitching prospect, corporate executive, CPA, teacher, and author, having penned his own autobiography entitled Charlie Riverside: A Teaching Memoir, published in April 2019.

After retiring as a CPA, he began a teaching career serving as an adjunct professor at Passaic County Community College, and joining the staff of CGHS.  His smiling face was there to greet CGHS students every morning for 16 years and his cheers and applause could be heard at CGHS sporting events, plays and concerts.
