CEDAR GROVE, NJ - The Cedar Grove Panthers girls basketball team opened the season at home with a 51-44 win over Caldwell at home on Friday.
The Panthers led after the first quarter 10-7, and they widened that lead to 25-15 by the end of the first half. Caldwell came out strong in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 11-7 to make it a six-point game. However, the Panthers held on tight in the last quarter to clinch the win.
Chloe Weinstein led for the Panthers with 16 points, while Jessie Green tallied 14 points in the win. Molly Bauer added seven points of her own and Ryan Cannataro and Anna Chaikowski each had six points for Cedar Grove.
Cedar Grove will host Passaic Charter on Monday at 2 p.m. and is scheduled to take on Verona in the annual holiday tournament on Friday.
