VERONA, NJ - The Verona Hillbillies girls basketball team fell to the West Essex Knights, 47-37, at home on Friday.

The Knights jumped to an early lead, outscoring the Hillbillies 19-7 in the first quarter -- a lead that proved to be too much for the Hillbillies to overcome.

Melanie Naeris led for Verona with 17 points and two rebounds.  Maddie Gallagher added six points for Verona and grabbed 13 rebounds.

Verona falls to 2-3 for the season.  They travel to Nutley on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
