VERONA, NJ — Kyle McCaffrey, a pitcher entering his senior year at Verona High School, recently announced a verbal commitment to attend the University of Albany.

A 6-0, 160-pound right-hander, McCaffrey's fastball has been clocked at 85 mph. After there was no high school baseball season last spring due to the COVID-19 restrictions, Verona did not enter the summer's Last Dance Tournament, so McCaffrey spent his summer pitching for the Wladyka Baseball Continental club team.

As a sophomore for the Verona varsity team, McCaffrey pitched 39 innings and posted a 1.38 earned-run average, when he merited mention on the Super Essex Conference 2019 All-Liberty Division Team.

McCaffrey is a drop-and-drive pitcher with a 3/4 delivery. A highlight of his 2019 sophomore season was a 10-strikeout performance in six-plus innings when Verona defeated Lyndhurst, 3-0, in the Section 2, Group 2 semifinals.
