RARITAN, NJ - The 35th Annual John Basilone Memorial Parade was held Sunday as veterans, current service men and women and so many more paraded down Somerset Street in honor of the decorated Marine.

The parade concluded with a ceremony that featured guest speaker retired Lt. General Richard Zilmer, as well as the placing of wreaths at the Basilone statue and an Iwo Jima reenactment.

Basilone, a native of Raritan, was the first enlisted Marine of World War II to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor. He was posthumously awarded the Navy Cross after being killed at Iwo Jima.

Giving Back: Learn How to Help Victims of Sexual Violence

Every year since 1984, trained volunteers with the Union County Rape Crisis Center have helped victims of sexual violence through the emotional, medical and legal aftermath of trauma. New volunteers are welcome to join the next series of training classes beginning on Thursday, March 22.
