Robertson, Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Chief of County Detectives John W. Fodor, and North Plainfield Borough Chief of Police William Parenti announced on Wednesday.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that on May 27, at approximately 11 p.m., the North Plainfield Police Department received a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed robbery at the Hunan Royal Chinese Restaurant located at 88 Watchung Avenue.
Responding officers made contact with a male employee who reported that he had just returned from a delivery and observed a tall black male wearing a black hoodie holding a knife at the rear door. The victim stated that he also observed another black male run out of the same door as he pointed a handgun at the victim as he remained in his delivery vehicle. Both suspects fled on foot towards a dark colored SUV or van.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that another witness reported seeing two thin black males in their early 20’s exiting a dark colored SUV or van and park on Brook Avenue. One male was wearing a grey hoodie and the other male was wearing a dark blue hoodie with a white stripe running down the arm. The witness observed them walking West towards Watchung Avenue.
Approximately four minutes later, the same witness observed both males running back to the dark colored vehicle operated by a white individual. The vehicle was last seen driving East on Brook Avenue.
A second employee reported that while at the cash register, a black male with a gun approached her from behind and forced her to open the register. The suspect then removed an unknown amount of currency from the register. Both individuals then fled using the rear door exit.
Prosecutor Robertson stated that detectives from the North Plainfield Police Department responded to conduct the investigation.
