“Bryan played locally for Somerset Hills Lax here in Basking Ridge. When Bryan was 11 he found out he had Glioblastoma Multiforme (GBM,) an aggressive brain tumor. He continued to play lacrosse with the support of his teammates even when sick from treatment. When Bryan died at age 12 their coach went to the middle school in Bernards Township, William Annin, to tell his teammates. The boys decided right then, over ten years ago to have a tournament in Bryan’s name to honor his spirit and his example,” an event committee member shared with TAP Into Basking Ridge. “My son was one of Bryan's teammates and most of the committee members had sons on the original team. This is one of two annual fundraising events for Bryan's Dream Foundation." The rest of the year will now be spent distributing funds and helping families,” she added.
Bryan’s Dream Foundation is a volunteer based non-profit organization established in 2006 in memory of Bryan Timothy Opremcak. The organization’s mission is to fulfill Bryan’s dream by providing hope and support to children with brain tumors as well as their families. Bryan's Dream continues to grow and in 10 years has raised over one million dollars, given away almost as much and offers financial assistance in over 20 states. Over 90% of funds raised go to the direct support of programs.
