FAR HILLS, NJ - If you've been looking for motivation to get to spring cleaning and emptying those closets, here it is: the donations period to give usable items of all kinds to be sold later at the fundraising VNA Spring Rummage Sale begins this Saturday, April 8.

The Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills, based in Basking Ridge, holds its giant rummage sale each spring and fall. Besides drawing thousands of people from throughout NJ and beyond, the sale also raises money to help the VNA provide health care for uninsured and underinsured clients.

Assistance with donations at the Far Hills Fairgrounds

The rummage sale is held twice each year at the Far Hills Fairgrounds at the intersection of Route 202 and Peapack Road (Route 512) in Far Hills. Donations will also be accepted there for the next three weeks, and members of the public can donate items that will be unloaded with the assistance of volunteers.

Tax forms are provided.

Donations Accepted April 8 to 26     

Donations will be collected between April 8 to 26, Mondays through Saturdays, between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The items collected will stock the VNA Spring Rummage Sale, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6, and from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 7.

Huge variety of items accepted

A huge variety of clothing for men, women and children, household merchandise, sporting goods, toys, books, furniture, artwork, and other items is accepted. Electronics items are tested before sold. The complete list of acceptable and unacceptable items is available at http://bitly.com/rummagedonations.

The donations not only are a major fundraiser for the VNA, but leftovers are donated to other charitable organizations. Proceeds from the volunteer-run sale will provide home health, hospice care and wellness services to community members and families in need.

Dollars raised will help enable the VNA to offer important wellness services not covered by any insurance, according to the organization.

Volunteer opportunities are also available during the sale and donation period for flexible hours. Volunteers receive shopping benefits.

The rummage sale is a Somerset Hills tradition that dates back about a century.
