WESTFIELD, NJ – Members of the community continue to rally behind the Lederman family of Westfield as dad Darren Lederman fights acute myeloid leukemia. Darren's wife Stacey is a teacher in the Warren Township School District.
On Tuesday, Feb. 23, a special paint party hosted by Be Craftful will take place at Oh’ Brian’s on the Green (1300 Raritan Rd. in Clark) from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. The $45 per person cost includes all materials, instruction, smocks and a 16×20 take-home canvas. Pizza specials and $5 house wine will be available.
It’s not the first time that Amy Boroff, owner of Be Craftul in Fanwood, has helped the Ledermans. On MLK Day, she invited members of the community to her shop in Fanwood to create cards for Darren.
“Children and adults created 90 cards to brighten Darren's room,” she said. She also collected a small amount of money for the family that day, but Boroff wanted to do more. After Darren’s wife, Stacey Katcher Lederman, posted a note in the Lederman Strong Facebook group thanking friends for taking her out one night, Boroff came up with the idea to bring some much-needed fun to Stacey’s life and raise money for them at the same time.
“We are hoping to raise a thousand dollars for the family and increase awareness,” Boroff said.
Hundreds attended a recent bone marrow drive at the JCC of Central NJ. If you missed that drive but would like to see if you are a match, a free kit can be sent to your home via DeleteBloodCancer.org. To order a kit, click on “register as a donor.” After answering questions to determine if you are eligible, you will see a drop down menu that asks “How did you hear about us?” Scroll down until you see "Darren Lederman."
