SUMMIT, NJ - FEBRUARY 20, 2020 - Congressman Tom Malinowski (NJ-07) visited Atlantic Health System’s Overlook Medical Center in Summit on Thursday, where he was given a first-hand look at the innovative ways that the hospital is delivering high-quality care.

The visit included a presentation and discussion with Overlook’s leadership led by Atlantic Health System President and CEO Brian Gragnolati and Overlook President Alan Lieber, which touched on Atlantic’s achievements in increasing access to care and enhancing quality while also lowering costs.

“We were honored to have Congressman Malinowski visit Overlook and were proud to show him the ways that Atlantic Health System is working to build healthier communities within his district and throughout New Jersey,” Lieber said.

“I was impressed by Overlook Medical Center’s innovative efforts to improve quality of care for New Jersey residents while doing their part to address the urgent national challenge of keeping healthcare costs under control,” the Congressman stated.

The visit also included a tour of some of Overlook’s innovative and clinical achievements such as the Telestroke technology that allows neurologists to assess stroke patients remotely thereby speeding treatment and saving brain; Cyberknife Center, part of Overlook’s radiation oncology department, where Overlook uses the latest model of Cyberknife, allowing doctors to successfully treat even larger tumors than previously; the 3-D printer which has allowed Overlook’s clinical engineering department to partner with clinical providers to design and produce common sense solutions to common and sometimes costly health care challenges; and the Glasser Caregivers Center, the only one of its kind in NJ, designed to provide comfort and support for families and caregivers of patients.

The Congressman was also given a sample of honey from Overlook’s rooftop apiaries, as well as a tote bag made from repurposed surgical blue wrap, the products of two of the many initiatives that has earned Overlook national recognition for environmental sustainability.
