NUTLEY, NJ - A Nutley man who assaulted a delivery driver with a sandwich has been charged with simple assault and now faces a court date, according to Nutley police.
On Dec. 15, cops responded to a call by a delivery driver on Nutley Avenue regarding a dispute.
The driver made a food delivery totaling $11.75, police said. The customer gave the driver $12 but refused the quarter change and told the driver to "toss it because [he] didn't need it," according to cops. The driver then tossed the quarter into the driveway, away from the man, they said.
While going back to the car, the driver reported, he was hit in the back of the head with a sandwich thrown by the customer, who then smeared the sandwich on the driver's windshield.
James Marra, age 22, of Nutley, was placed under arrest and transported to Nutley police headquarters without incident. He was charged with simple assault, criminal mischief, advised of his court date and released.
Details were not provided regarding the type of sandwich at the center of this dispute.
