WATCHUNG, NJ - A report to police from a concerned citizen who observed an "erratic driver" on Hillcrest Road led to the arrest of Steven Amorim, 38, of Bound Brook, who allegedly drove off the roadway on Mountain Boulevard, through Twin Brooks country club's parking lot and onto the golf course before coming to a stop at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 15.
Amorim was arrested and charged with DWI and his vehicle was towed from the scene. He is expected to appear in court on Jan. 7.
Police found Amorim asleep behind the steering wheel of a 2012 Ford pickup truck. He was taken to University Hospital in Newark to be treated for minor injuries to his face and hands "from what he could only describe as an earlier and unrelated incident," police said.
The total amount of damage to the golf course has yet to be determined.
