Groundbreaking Ceremony for Camp Jotoni – Special Needs Camp in Somerset County
Warren Twp. NJ: The Arc of Somerset County is proud to announce the official ground breaking ceremony for the capital improvements to their Camp Jotoni facilities. The ceremony aptly named “Champagne and Shovels” will take place on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 5:00pm in the evening on the Camp Grounds located at 51 Old Stirling Road, Warren, NJ.
In early 2014, The Arc Foundation of Somerset County, board and staff launched the campaign initiative to raise the funds needed to get the first phase of the three phased plan completed.
Camp Jotoni is a 15 acre camp that has served children and adults with intellectual and developmental and for the past 46 summers. Due to the changing and complex needs of the campers served, the current camp facilities are inadequate and require complete renovation and expansion. In addition, the cabins will be constructed to allow for year round use to allow for expanded services for the community.
This project represents a unique public/private partnership and a culmination of six years of planning to create a facility which will serve an increasing need for respite and other programs for families who have a loved one with a intellectual / developmental disabilities.
Recognizing the need to address the significant support challenges of disability community, The Arc of Somerset County partnered with a team of engineering, architectural and landscaping professionals to create a comprehensive plan to address the facility and grounds upgrades that will support the goals of the Camp well into the future.
After nearly 50 years of continuous service, and community service to our most special community members, the Camp will receive a much needed face lift.
We are pleased to have the opportunity to acknowledge all of the donors who have assisted in our fundraising efforts that have been ongoing for the past 5 years. Supporters have ranged from private donors, corporate philanthropy and private foundation grants. In addition, The Arc has sponsored an annual Golf Outing; “Clubs for Cabins” to provide additional funds for the Capital Campaign.
Executive Director, Lauren Frary states “ It has been amazing to watch an entire community of families, friends, professionals, corporations and local business come together in support of our Campaign, which will ultimately benefit the children, adolescents and Adults with disabilities that we serve now and in the future”.
The campaign will continue into the next few years to continue to raise funds for subsequent phases. The groundbreaking event will be host to donors, families, local community businesses, municipal and legislative representatives as well as the general public who have a vested interest in seeing the campaign through its full fruition. An RSVP to attend is required. Public parking and shuttle van will be available at the Washington Valley Fire Company beginning at 4:00pm.
