WARREN, NJ - The 2017 Chinese New Year begins on Saturday January 28. It’s the Year of the Rooster and, at Angelo L. Tomaso School, two sisters kicked off the Chinese New Year with a greeting delivered in both English and Chinese.

“We are all one year older,” said fourth grader Melinda Xu over the intercom during morning announcements. “With the teachers’ love and care, we learned so many new things and developed our great dreams.”

“In this new year, we will work harder and make our teachers and parents proud,” added first grader Emma Xu who, like her sister, was dressed in traditional clothing.. “Even facing difficulties, we will persistently overcome them.”

“Like small flowers,” the sisters said they will “grow bigger and splendid.”

“We believe that we will be proud of ourselves and we believe that this will be a great new year,” they said. “We wish everyone the best luck in the Year of the Rooster and that all dreams come true.”
