The Holiday Season brings a lot of fun and excitement, but it can also be a very stressful time of year.  One way to reduce holiday stress is to curl up with a good book. According to research at the University of Sussex, reading for just six minutes has been shown to reduce stress by 68 percent.

Not sure what to read during this holiday season? Check out SCLSNJ’s website for suggestions:

SCLSNJ’s Just For Readers page has a wealth of information that can help a reader pick his or her next book.  It includes the following -- and much more -- in one convenient location:

Sign Up for E-News

  • The New York Times’, USA Today’s, Publishers Weekly’s and Indie Bound’s best seller lists

  • Book Review Magazines such as BookPage, The New York Times Book Review and Bookspot

  • Reading Group Guides and Reading Group Choices for book discussion groups

The site can tell the reader what book is next in his favorite series and offer “readalikes” for his favorite author.  It provides access to 42,000 free e-books and gives library patrons updates on the newest fiction.

Can’t find anything?  Consider these library staff picks:

  • “Girl On The Train” by Paula Hawkins
  • “Luckiest Girl Alive” by Jessica Knolls
  • “The Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah
  • “The Marriage of Opposites” by Alice Hoffman
  • “After You” by Jo-Jo Moyes
