WARREN, NJ - Police have advised that a multiple car accident has occurred on Interstate 78 near mile marker 38 with two fatalities and others with serious injuries.
Route 78 westbound is now closed as of 9:09 p.m. Expect closures in the eastbound lanes to allow emergency vehicles access. All traffic is being diverted to Exit 40. The Medical Examiner is en route and Northstar is transporting 30 year old male to Morristown Memorial Hospital.
Avoid the area.
Update: A vehicle that did not stop for state troopers crashed off Interstate 78, killing both occupants, State Police said. "Troopers followed the vehicle for approximately three miles before the driver lost control and ran off of the road to the right into a wooded area," State Police said in a statement.
At the same location, near mile marker 38 in Warren Township, a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in separate crash, the statement said.
Both the driver and the pedestrian were hospitalized. The driver suffered serious injuries and was flown to Morristown Memorial hospital.The pedestrian was transported by ambulance to the same hospital with unspecified injuries, police said.
State Police said an "extensive" investigation was ongoing and additional details were not immediately available.
