MOUNTAINSIDE, NJ — A multiple vehicle accident on  US-22 and Lawrence Avenue in Mountainside closed Route 22 in both directions on Wednesday around 12:30 p.m.

According to a 12:28 p.m. report from the Breaking News Network, there were multiple injuries reported with possible entrapments. Hazmat was requested to the scene. 

Route 22 will remain closed going East between Glenside Ave and Lawrence Ave for at least four hours as cleanup continues, according to an alert by Union County sent at about 2:30 p.m. The county said there are extensive delays on both sides of the highway and in the entire area. It advised drivers to plan ahead and seek an alternate route.

Update at 3:17 p.m. states Route 22 could be closed up to as late as 7 p.m. this evening to allow Haz Mat crews clean up the large diesel and hydraulic oil spill.
