SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ - The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Flash Flood Advisory for the area until noon on Saturday. King George Road in Warren is closed south of Mt Horeb Road due to flooding as of 8:40 a.m. Mountainview Road and US Route 22 have standing water in some areas. Route 22 at North Drive in North Plainfield is flooded. Turn around, don’t drown.
Although rainfall is tapering off, two to three inches of rain has fallen this morning. Flash flooding is expected to continue.
According to the NWS, a slow-moving frontal system will bring numerous showers and thunderstorms that have the potential to bring torrential downpours with rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots. Report flooding to your local law enforcement agency when you can do so safely. A Flood Advisory means river or stream flows are elevated, or ponding of water in urban or other areas is occurring or is imminent.
