NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ - Police arrested a New Brunswick man in connection with a knife fight early Sunday morning, authorities confirmed on Monday.

The incident left one man, a 22-year-old New Brunswick resident, with injuries to his hand, according to police spokesperson Captain JT Miller.

Officers responded to the incident at 3:19 a.m. on Jan. 14, after reports came in of an altercation in the area of Hale Street, Miller said.

They found that the victim and assailant were in dispute over financial debt, which escalated to a fight and then a blade attack, Miller said, adding it was believed the suspect used a box cutter.

Police arrested the suspect, Serafin Flores-Hernandez, 25 of New Brunswick, and charged him with aggravated assault and weapons offenses.

The current medical status of the victim is unknown at this time.
