WARREN, NJ - High winds and wet snow are taking down trees and, with them, power lines, phone lines and cable wires all over the area. The National Weather Service issued a High Wind Warning and Flood Watch for Somerset and Union County until 6 a.m. Saturday. Sustained winds of 25-35 miles per hour were predicted, with gusts up to 60 miles an hour.
Warren Township police urge drivers to exercise caution while driving due to high winds and possible falling branches and trees on Friday.
A falling tree branch crashed through a resident’s windshield Friday afternoon. The resident is unharmed.
All after school and evening activities are canceled at Warren Township Schools, including all basketball games.
Warren residents have reported a power outage on Ferguson Road, Kings George Road, Brookside Drive and Katherine Drive. Road closures due to downed trees and wires have been reported:
At 8:30 p.m., much of Watchung is without power. At Washington Avenue and Route 22 the traffic light is out. A tree is down on Valley Drive between Valley Road and Johnston Drive in Watchung.
At 9:30 p.m. Friday, Emerson Lane between Hillcrest Road and Northridge Way in Warren was closed due to a tree down on the power lines.
Avoid Hunter's Trail at Morning Glory Road in Warren due to a large tree and power lines down across the roadway.
At 3 p.m., residents reported a tree down on Mountainview Road in Warren making the road impassable.
Interhaven Avenue in Green Brook is closed until further notice due to downed power lines, police advised on Friday afternoon. Rock Road West is closed between Fairway Drive and Warrenville Road.
West End Avenue by Willow in North Plainfield has been closed due to a tree down on wires.
And in Long Hill, a tree fell on a passing car.
