EDISON, NJ - A 23 year old Carteret man is in stable condition after being stabbed in the chest early Tuesday during a dispute in the parking lot outside a Menlo Park Mall sports bar, police said.
A dispute between two men erupted at 2:12 a.m. Tuesday, just after the Fox & Hound sports bar closed, according to an initial investigation by police officer Jeffrey Hozeny. The reason for the argument is unknown, police said.
After words were exchanged, one of the men used a folding knife to stab the other in the upper chest before leaving the parking lot in a vehicle, police said.
The stabbing victim was driven by a companion to nearby JFK Medical Center in Edison. After he was treated in the emergency room, the victim was transferred to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he is listed in stable condition, police said.
Witnesses described the assailant as a dark-skinned, African-American man with a medium build wearing dark clothing. Descriptions of the vehicle that he drove away in were vague, police said.
The incident is under investigation by police Detective Ted Hamer. Anyone with information may contact the Edison Police Department at (732) 248-7400.
